Mission Statement: The Counseling program at East Garner International Baccalaureate and Creative Arts Magnet Middle School envisions empowered students that are ever pursuing learning, growth, and success. Having built academic, personal, and social skill goals, each student is prepared for a path to high school graduation, career, global citizenship and life-long learning. They utilize partnerships with community members and seek resources to support each other in our diverse and changing world.
Our services At East Garner Magnet Middle School, the Student Services department uses the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) Model to plan, develop, and implement its School Counseling Program. Below are some of the services that you’ll find us providing each day:
Orientation and academic advising for new students
Providing counseling to students who are tardy, absent, or have disciplinary problems
Consulting with teachers about building classroom connections and effective classroom management
Mediating conflicts between students
Providing classroom guidance lessons on topics such as bullying, social and emotional learning, signs of suicide, human trafficking and career exploration
Providing small group counseling on topics such as grief, friendship, and LGBT pride
Providing academic enrichment to students in need of study skills, time management, and organization training
